in december 2010 and one week before christmas eve, i left the desolate, dark and freezing cells in deptford and popped the bar up at bob's pie n' mash and jellied eels shop in hackney's broadway market. london. uk.
pie n' mash shops have been operating in britain since the 1900s to feed the working classes; basic, stodgy food and eels with jelly and liquor (parsley sauce made from the eel water); now and with a few remaining in their original features, are more trendy and more popular, or not...
stav B's pie n' mash liquor bar was born at f. cooke's pie n' mash shop every friday from the new year...
the four cocktails on my small police report looking list, became fourteen on silver and gold photo frames bought from an east london market, with special cocktails, according to any special occasion, like valentine's day (blood and sand; a classic whiskey mix, specially made for rodolfo valentino's premiere in 1922; see the relevance?), fashion week, along with homemade cupcakes made in my kitchen, STORY magazine fundraiser ( i devised two blue cocktails to match the cayen blue of the logo, with vodka and rum) and FRINGE! east end gay and lesbian film festival (classic cosmos and fruit daiquiris)...
film screeenings, live music and recorded, we had the turntables on top of the eel urns were added to the curriculum for extra activity, traffic and interest.
so much fun and avant garde imagination...
still learning to be business minded in my art (istic) vision...
